ARTICLE 4 Section 1. Duties of the Post Commander. It shall be the duty of the Post Commander to preside at all meetings of the Post and have a general supervision over the business and affairs of the Post, and such officer shall be the chief executive officer of the Post. He shall approve all orders directing the disbursement of funds and shall make an annual report covering the business of the Post for the year, and recommendations for the ensuing year, which shall be read at the annual meeting and copy thereof immediately forwarded to the Department Adjutant. He shall perform such other duties as directed by the Post.

Section 2. Duties of the First Vice Commander. He shall assume and discharge the duties of the office of the Commander in his absence or disability of, or when called upon by the Post Commander. In addition, he shall have charge of all matters pertaining to the membership of the Post, including the procurement of new members, reinstatement and eligibility of members, including the processing and mailing of membership cards, and keep such records as the Department and National Organizations may require regarding membership.

Section 3. Duties of the Second Vice Commander. The Second Vice Commander shall have charge of all matters pertaining to promotion of Post Events and arrangements for social activities.

Section 4. Duties of Post Adjutant. The Adjutant shall have charge of and keep a full record of all proceedings of all meetings and keep such records as the Department and National Organizations may require and under direction of the Commander to handle all correspondence of the Post. Section 5. Duties of Finance Officer. The Finance Officer shall be charged with the custody of those funds designated by the Executive Committee to the General Fund of the Post. He shall keep the accounts and report thereon at each regular meeting of the Post. He shall pay all bills when so ordered and they are approved. The signature of the Commander and Finance Officer shall be required on all checks. The Finance Officer shall see that all funds are safely deposited in some local Bank(s), Saving & Loan(s) or Credit Union(s) that are Federally Insured. Individual accounts may not exceed the maximum amount insured by the depository. After December 31 of each year, the Finance Officer is to see that all Post books will be audited by a Certified Public Accountant Corporation for the purpose of federal regulations.

Section 6. Post Chaplain. The Post Chaplain shall be charged with the spiritual welfare of the Post comrades and will offer divine but non-sectarian service in the event of dedications, funerals, public functions, etc., adhere to such ceremonial rituals as are recommended by the National or Department headquarters from time to time. The Post Chaplain is charged with visiting members and their families when sick and bereaved and with visiting exservicemen/servicewomen in nearby hospitals or nursing homes.

Section 7. Duties of the Sergeant-at-Arms. The Sergeant-at-Arms shall maintain order at all meetings. He shall register all members as they enter meetings. He shall assume charge of and be responsible for the Post Colors and Post Arms.

Section 8. Duties of the Service Officer. The Service Officer is responsible for Veteran’s rehabilitation claims and services, is charged with visiting members and their families when sick and bereaved and with visiting ex-servicemen/servicewomen in nearby hospitals, and shall be charged with aid and service to children of veterans.
